On July 17, the residents and projects situated at ZK/U Berlin – Center for Art and Urbanistics – will open the doors of their studios for OPENHAUS.
OPENHAUS invites you to get to know the work of the artists who currently live and work at ZK/U. Take the opportunity to talk to artists and researchers on site, find out about ongoing projects at ZK/U and take a look at methods and processes that otherwise often take place behind closed doors.
Algorithmic Ecologies
During OPENHAUS, metaLAB (at) Berlin, in collaboration with Berlin Open Lab and ClimArt, situated within ZK/U Berlin, will present artistic prototypes developed from May to July 2025 that explore more-than-human design perspectives and interfaces in relation to climate change, investigating the potential of open-source software and hardware as critical design tools for developing interventions as temporary installations in urban spaces.
From the droplet on the roof, through the rainwater downpipe, into the barrel, and from there into the garden: Three site-specific interventions were explored to help to build ecological literacy among participants and the wider public, proposing possible prototypes and pathways for near-future human-nonhuman companionship.
Project partners: Freie Universität Berlin (metaLAB), Berlin University of the Arts (Berlin Open Lab + Weizenbaum Institute), Technische Universität Berlin (Einstein Center Digital Future), ZK/U Berlin – Center for Art and Urbanistics.
